Lavatch informs his mistress that her son Bertram has left Helena to go off to the wars in Italy and refused to accept her as his wife unless she can get a child by him and take his family's ring from him.

Bertram (Morgan Nichols)attempts to court a young Florentine woman named Diana (Laura Mae Baker). Unbeknownst to Bertram, Maria is in the employ of his wife Helena who will use her to betrick Bertram. When Bertram thinks he is bedding Diana, Helena will be substituted instead  Stratford Festival Theater, Stratford, CT
With the wars in Italy won, Bertram returns to the King of France's (Frank Franconeri) court. Since he has been away he learns that his wife Helena has died, which was part of her plan to trick him. Bertram's would be lover Diana (Laura Mae Baker) claiming to be his wife arrives at court and casts syspicions that Bertram may have had something to do with Helena's "death".  Stratford Festival Theater, Stratford, CT
Helena reveals herself to be alive, Bertram's conditions satisfied and Bertram agrees to finally accept her. Above, the Countess, Maria and the Countess' gentlewoman look on with content at the pair. Van Vorst Park, Jersey City, NJ
