Internship Opportunities 2012
Mission Statement
To provide a unique learning experience where drama students and early career professionals can explore their craft and learn more about Shakespeare, running a company, and exploring different facets of a theater company. Students will get to stretch themselves in performing in two or three touring shows (subject to student’s schedule), perform backstage duties, learn the basics of stage combat, Shakespeare verse technique and scene study. Students will also be able to explore different administrative and production aspects of working in a theater company.
What to Expect and What We Do
We are a non-Equity traveling theater company. Every year for the past 21 years we have traveled to different local parks in the Hudson County area. We also have a location in Stratford, CT. (As a side note: Our shows our OUTSIDE, which means summer heat, rain, no dressing rooms, and bugs! If this is not for you, please do not apply! We do not require any overnight stays – as such – interns should have their own housing in the area as we do not provide that. You are more than free to have your own day job, but we do require you to dedicate about 20 hours a week to the company. About 9-12 hours a week will be spent in rehearsals. The other time you will be given classes in Stage Combat, Verse Technique, Scene Study, and Monologue coaching. According to areas of interest, we will also be giving you the opportunity to assist the Fight Director, or Artistic Director with day to day activities. (Included, but not limited to: care of weaponry, helping with a fight call, compiling costumes, props or extra materials for the shows, learning about park relations and other administrative duties.)
Qualifications
1. Must be at least 18 years old and enrolled in a college or university studying drama, or an early career professional.
2. Must have your own transportation. We will provide transportation to and from shows, but you must get yourself to all rehearsals and administrative duties.
3. A willingness to learn and a desire to grow as an artist.
4. Must be willing to dedicate around 20 hours a week (estimated) of UNPAID time. (Rehearsals will comprise about 9-12 hours a week, plus some administrative duties.) \
Responsibilities
1. Will perform smaller roles in two or three of the company’s shows. (Othello, Comedy of Errors and Cardenio) and understudy lead roles.
2. Will be assigned backstage duties (either props, set, or costumes, or weaponry). PLEASE NOTE all of our actor’s participate in backstage duties.
3. Be able to assist time (flexible) with assisting the Fight Director or Artistic Director with administrative duties as needed. We will work directly with Fight Director or Artistic Director in determining duties and time.
4. Will attend all rehearsals for their role and understudy role.
