Bjorn Pederson plays the shepherd's son in The Winter's Tale and is seen here overwhelmed with the attention-seeking wenches Dorcus (Alice Yorke, left) and Mopsa (Emily Holmes Hahn).

Looking for something to do tonight? See an outdoor performance of William Shakespeare's "The Winter's Tale" in Hoboken's waterfront Sinatra Park.

The Winter's Tale will be performed by Hudson Shakespeare Company, which seeks to perform some of the Bard's lesser known works. Last July, they performed King John throughout Hudson County and you may have also seen them do Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet and Two Gentlemen of Verona. The play will begin at 7 tonight next door to the Sinatra Park Cafe.

Directed by Michael Hagins, The Winter's Tale is the story of the pitfalls and emotional journeys of Queen Hermione (Deirdre Ann Johnson) and her daughter Perdita (Monica Jones) and the comedic buffoons they encounter along the way. Written in 1609, The Winter's Tale is one of Shakespeare's romances or "fairy tale" plays among, which The Tempest is part. These plays often feature exotic and fictional lands, comic subplots, lovers and families torn apart by circumstances followed by a joyous and miraculous reunion. The title refers to ancient fairy tales often told round holiday or winter campfires of daring heroes and reunited lovers.

For those who live in Jersey City, The Winter's Tale will also be performed this Wednesday, July 1, at 7 p.m. in Van Vorst Park (corner of Jersey Avenue and Montgomery Street). The rain date is Thursday, July 2 at 7 p.m.
