'Proof' at Kenilworth library
KENILWORTH--The Kenilworth Public Library will present a performance of the award winning drama Proof by David Auburn, to be performed by members of the Hudson Shakespeare Company at 7:30 p.m. on March 13 in the library's main reading room. This acclaimed play, winner in 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Tony Award for Best Play and Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Play, is a story of mathematics, mental illness, and the relationship between Catherine, the daughter of Robert, a famous mathematician, and Hal, Robert's former student. Mary-Louise Parker won the 2001 Tony for best actress for her portrayal of Catherine and Gwyneth Paltrow played this role in the 2005 film adaptation.
Members of the cast of this production will be recognizable to previous attendees of Kenilworth performances by the Hudson Shakespeare Company. The role of Catherine will be played by Noelle Fair who last appeared with Hudson Shakespeare in the role of the Nurse in the 2007 performance of Romeo and Juliet. The role of Robert will be performed by Charles J. Roby who previously appeared in Kenilworth as Lt. Col. Nathan Jessup in A Few Good Men and as Polonius in Hamlet. The role of Hal will be played by Devin Landin who last appeared in Kenilworth as Antipholus of Ephesus in Comedy of Errors and the role of Claire is being played by Jennifer Nasta, a newcomer to the company.
This performance is free and open to members of the general public. However, because space is limited, preferred registration will be available to Kenilworth residents only, with registration opening to people from other communities on March 9 if space permits.
