Hudson Shakespeare Company performs four free productions at Stratford Public Library

Stratford - The outdoor barbeques are blazing, the surf is up, and the sun tan lotion is flowing freely, all of this can only mean one thing, free outdoor Shakespeare is back in Stratford. The Hudson Shakespeare Company returns to the Stratford Library with "Twelfth Night" on Saturday, June 28 at 2p.m., the second in a series of four free Shakespeare productions this summer.

Set this time in a modern Hawaiian setting, this Shakespeare mistaken identity tale with a cross-dressing theme follows a shipwrecked heroine named Viola into the exotic and strange land of Illyria. Disguising herself as a man and gaining employment with the local lovesick Duke Orsino, Viola stumbles onto a band of beachcombers led by the ever drunk Toby Belch, prissy butler Malvolio, love-struck Olivia and nerdy Andrew Aguecheeck who wants to challenge Viola to a duel to the death-all as she searches for her long lost twin brother Sebastian. Will Viola be reunited with her brother? WIll Toby's life long beer fest be thwarted by Malvolio? WIll the Duke ever stop singing love songs? All this and more will be answered in HSC's production of "Twelfth Night"

The comedy will be performed in the Stratford Library's amphitheater located in the read of the agency on June 28 beginning at 2p.m. Patrons should bring a lawn chair or blanket to spread. In the event of rain, the play will be presented in the air-conditioned Lovell Room. Next at the library will be the rarely produced "King John" on July 19 and an all-female production of "Julius Caesar". All performances are free and open to the public. Seating on a first-come, first-serve basis
